The Buddhist Bin Laden is a short documentary film about religious conflicts and the rise of Buddhist extremism in Burma.
A group led by a revered Buddhist monk, Wirathu, has been inciting violence against Muslims throughout the country, creating a dire human rights situation.
On May 14th, the New York Times published an article about hundreds of Muslims stranded at sea after they fled oppressive conditions in Myanmar. The refugees are part of an ethnic group called the Rohingya that the UN has described as one of the most persecuted peoples in the world. The Rohingya have suffered the worst under a broader campaign in Burma to marginalize, expel and sometimes even kill the country's Muslim population.
